On Saturday 19th July you will be able to join me at Make for a toy rabbit workshop.
The workshop has been especially developed for Make with an exclusive toy patterned designed by me for you to keep and use again. The class is suitable for ages 8 and up, but can be enjoyed by all ages. I would recommend if a young crafter wants to come that they team up with an adult partner as we will be using sewing machines.
Apart from it being heaps of fun as you get to bring to life your own Ooh la Lapin bunny you will also learn skills like hand embroidery, basic machine sewing and toy design.
Here are the details:

The shop now has a series of plush ‘British Seabirds’ backed in vintage fabric and some nifty greetings cards!
I am so super lucky to have a fantastic craft cafe minutes away from my home on Albert Road. Make is a shop, cafe and offers tuition in a range of crafts from crochet to dress making in a relaxed and creative space. There is a good range of Japanese chino fabrics, designer prints and plains. I opted for some locally hand dyed fabric, beautiful trims and some plain cottons.
To have a play around I decided to make a hanging fish based on locals favourite catch the Mackerel. I also took some snaps of my studio space which is starting to fill up with toys and other handmade pieces. Expect more on Make soon!
An enduring craft and easily workable into any home. From vintage to modern bright prints, paintwork, paper and plain burlap stitched round lampshades I really think there is a patchwork style to suit any interior.
“We always imagine that there’s got to be somewhere else better than where we are right now; this is the Great Somewhere Else we all carry around in our heads. We believe Somewhere Else is out there for us if only we could find it. But there’s no Somewhere Else. Everything is right here… Make this your paradise or make this your hell. The choice is entirely yours. Really.”
I read this morning and it really struck a chord with me. I know both types of person and I veer from one to the other.
I had a really great meeting last night about the Zine Fair and it was one of those situations where you’re sat with people who are interested in making life a bit richer.
After the success of our last Southsea Sisters crafting session we will be meeting again in October to support this wonderful project.
So what will you need to bring?
- approximately 1 metre of cotton fabric
- an additional piece of fabric if you’d like to add a contrasting band with matching arm hole binding and fabric tie
- 2 metres double fold bias tape, or we can make some.
- coordinating thread
- safety pins
- a pack of elastic (about 1/2 inch wide)
There is a nifty tutorial here and also here.
You don’t need to be an amazing seamstress, you can be a complete beginner! If you have a sewing machine that you are competent with please bring it and be prepared to help others. I will provide an iron and board and a paper pattern.
With time at a premium and various projects going on its sometimes hard to find time to make! Im currently gearing up to project manage Rubble Office Portsmouth with my creative partner and boyfriend Josh Knill under the banner of Tinder Wolf our collaboration. I have also been appointed curator and gallery manager of The Gold Room Gallery at Room 237 in Southsea, so its vital I actually have time to make stuff and be an awesome mum.
Ooh well this is nifty, you can set your blog to post on any day you like so I thought I would do that (little happy smile). I am probably in Lille at the moment or maybe Brussels?
