little kitty vintage

On Saturday I met the lovely Eliza aka ‘Little Kitty Vintage’ and was super impressed by her fabric makes.

Click on the link and ‘like’ her on facebook and show some support for a fellow Portsmouth artist/maker.

yarn Japan gogo!

I just love this bench Im not sure why it says free pets but I think its promoting a Japanese charity that re homes unwanted pets. This is what I could glean from the website, there are some amazing photos to wonder at, thanks to Craftzine today for switching me on to it. My own crazy crochet/knit creation is coming along nicely too.

I like these too.

simple sewing make

As promised and a little late here is a simple gift idea. You will need…

  • A rectangle of fabric, as large or small as you like.
  • A gift tag, I printed mine out from here
  • A piece of ribbon.

First step is to sew your little bag, fold the fabric in half and sew along the bottom and up one side (the folded edge makes up the other side) and of course leave the top open. It really doesn’t matter that the top is a little tatty it adds to the shabby charm of your little bag.

This is also really easy to do by hand whilst watching telly in the evening  or under your desk at work!

ta da!

Now find the centre of the ribbon and with a couple of stitches fix it in place on the side of the bag.

Fill you bag with something festive, could be chocolate but I opted to fill each bag with 4 frankincense and myrrh tea lights so the little bags would smell lovely!

a little bit of advertising for Sainsbury's!

Tie up your ribbon and thread the tag onto it before you finish your bow and its ready!

Dirty sewing for bad girls

I dont know if I have ever admitted it but I never use patterns or measure anything !

Yes that’s pretty naughty, I do everything by eye, I dont stress about it and Im not afraid to see what happens.

All my bags, quilts, everything is totally improvised. Of course it is a skill which is built from a lot of trial and error but I now feel comfortable to hack into an expensive piece of fabric without a second thought or a bit of tailors chalk.

If you’d like to learn the art ‘Dirty sewing for bad girls’ I will be running a workshop on Saturday 12th February to learn how to sew something and break all the rules at the same time.

You will be designing and making your own bag to take home at the end of the day!

granny square slippers

Whilst looking at my one of my favourite sites ‘The Purl Bee’ today I found a tutorial for these utterly adorable granny square slippers. These are totally achievable in a day or a few evenings in front of the telly. They would make an adorable Christmas gift too. Next week I embark into the wild territory of felt making again as my Dad has requested some handmade felt slippers for Christmas. As Im still a bit unwell I shall stay in warm again next week fettling with my textiles getting better.

Sewing workshop cancelled.

Im really sorry to announce that the sewing workshop at the Kings is canceled due to my bad health.

I have had a virus for 1 month now, and Im pretty darn unhappy and frustrated. I have been ordered to rest for at least the next 5 days to shake the rest of it off and then may have the tonsils taken out. Oh joy I would love a tonsillitis free future!

Never fear though I will post a couple of tutorials online in the next few days so you can still have a go at sewing some decorations from the comfort of your own home.
